The Boys’ Brigade, an organisation that is committed to nurturing the Youth to serve and lead, just celebrated its 75th Anniversary last year (2005). It was a Jubilee year for us as we celebrated a 75 year old ministry that has contributed immensely to nation building. Indeed, The Boys’ Brigade ministry seeks to promote habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline and Self-respect in our Boys through fun, meaningful and challenging activities. Our programme comprises sports and adventure, citizenship, community service, drill, first aid, leadership development and Life Skills. Leadership development and Life Skills are not only important to us in BB but they are also two of the important elements that contribute to an all-rounded education. As such, there will be leadership camps and courses organised to help our Boys grow in these areas. In Boys’ Brigade, we believe that leaders should serve the community. Hence, the 79th Coy in Henderson is greatly involved in community service projects like BB CARES and The Sharity Gift Box. In 2005, we rallied about 200 Hendersonians for the BB Thanksgiving Carnival. Hence, BB CARES has become Henderson CARES for us here in Henderson! Competition draws out the best from oneself. – Each year, 79th Coy participates in annual competitions organised by The Boys’ Brigade Headquarters, two of which are The Adventure Quest in April and The Seniors’ National Bible Quiz in July. In 2004 and 2005, Henderson clinched the Gold Honour Roll in the Bible Quiz while in 2006 Henderson clinched the Silver Honour Roll. What’s a rite of passage from boys to men without sports and adventure? In Boys’ Brigade, we organise sports and adventure activities like archery, kayaking, musketry, camps and expeditions to help develop our Boys physically, mentally as well as socially. This year, two of our Senior Boys represented the school at The National Day Parade at The National Stadium while another ten Boys participated in the National Camp 2006 organised by NCC HQ. A young company of fours years, the 79th Company of Boys’ Brigade has made its progress – sure and stedfast. Having clinched the J.M. Fraser Gold Award in 2004 and J.M. Fraser Silver Award in 2005, the Boys, officers and teachers are committed to strive hard so as to bring the company and school to greater heights. ‘Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.’ – Albert Einstein Teachers-in-charge: Mr. Zubi Kek & Mr. Alan Cheng Former Teachers-in-charge: Ms Evelyn Wu & Ms Shirley Chua
